Thank you to COAD members who have stepped up to help out during the ice storm. We are still activated and engaging in the following activities.

Lane County Emergency Management activated a help line at 2-1-1 for people without power and experiencing a crisis. The help line gives people a number to call to be connected with resources that may assist them with needs brought on by the widespread, long-term power outages. The call center will be open Sunday-Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 5 p.m.

American Red Cross has opened a shelter at Spencer Butte Middle School 500 E 43rd Avenue, Eugene, OR.

Central Aid Agency has been hard at work clearing debris from yards and houses.

Love, INC. and their amazing group of volunteers has been delivering firewood to homes that have run out and are without another heat source.

All FOOD for Lane County food pantries are ready to help supply food and emergency blankets for people without power.

Lane County Animals in Disaster and Unleashed Community Church have been working on finding shelter for pets.

Serenity Lane and a local church have offered financial assistance, which will be aided by the fiscal sponsor of United Way. (Note: we are not soliciting donations at this time; this was a generous and kind surprise.)

St. Vincent de Paul and Lane Community College operated Egan Warming Centers to provide shelter for people without homes, and were full at many locations.

If your organization is in a position to be able to help out, it's not too late - please let us know by using the form on this webpage.

There are many community organizations hard at work to help out and I apologize if I have missed anyone. Many thanks to all of you, and of course to EWEB who is working around the clock.

ACTIVATED DECEMBER 16, 2016 14:13

COAD has not been contacted for specific needs yet in relation to the winter storm, but we are preparing to be able to help if needed. Some parts of Eugene are without power and may not have it restored for 3-4 days. It is anticipated that people may start running out of food, water, firewood, or need blankets or shelter this weekend or on Monday.

The 211 Info line will be activated on Sunday December 18, to be open for people in our community who may have needs. Our work now is to create a resource list with specifics that can be used for the 211 dispatchers to help make referrals. To that end, if you have a resource that can be of use to households without power, could you please let us know:

  • What resource you have - the more specific, the better

  • Who the public should contact - What number and/or email the public can call to find out more

  • Hours of operation - If you are open for calls this weekend, please let us know.

  • Any other specific info that would be helpful

We are aiming to have this resource list available by Saturday December 17. Please use the form on this page to notify the COAD of your resources. Thank you for your help.

STANDBY DECEMBER 15, 2016 15:17

Linda Cook, Lane County's Emergency Manager, would like to share the information below about the current winter storm. We'll be on "standby" for any potential needs that may arise.

"The ice storm impacts may create a need for humanitarian services over the next few days.  In other words, we may find that there are pockets of people that are on day 4 of a power outage and have run out of say, firewood, food, etc. (recall the 2014 storm)."
