Schools

Germstopper Poster (Link to PDF)Lane County public schools, public and private preschools, childcare, the University of Oregon and Lane Community College may be required to cancel classes in order to limit the spread of flu in the community and to help prevent children from becoming sick. School-related activities and services such as clubs, sports practices and events, music activities, and school meals may be cancelled. Class cancellations, if implemented, would likely happen very early in a pandemic to provide the greatest benefit in limiting spread of influenza. Such actions could occur on short notice.

  • Teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders should work together to develop and distribute the school's pandemic plan.
  • Children may need to stay at home for extended periods of time due to school closures and restrictions on public gatherings during a moderate to severe pandemic.
  • Families and schools can work together to plan home learning activities and exercises for children to do at home.
  • Schools can play an important role in helping to reduce the spread of influenza. See http://www.cdc.gov/flu/school/ for more information.
